CASE STUDY – ROTHIEMURCHUS & AVIEMORE TENNIS CLUB.
Disciplines : Groundworks, , engineered base, framed fabric covered court and polymeric surfacing
Rothiemurchus and Aviemore Tennis Club (RATC) wanted to resurface their existing three outdoor tennis courts in an all weather surface and to create a fourth covered court that would be suitable for tennis and other sports and meet the requirements of various funding bodies. Both the surface and structure had to be carefully designed to meet the needs of the club and community in a location that, at times, has a challenging climate.
The project was delivered in two phases to match the funding available to the club and to suit statutory approvals.
Build up and delivery
Doe worked closely with the club to initially complete the resurfacing of the three outdoor courts. These were upgraded from porous macadam to a full polymeric surface. Work was completed in June 2018 and in the meantime Doe assisted the club and project manager in securing the remaining funding for the covered court which was delivered as a second Phase.
Work on this Phase started in October 2018 and continued through the winter for completion in Spring 2019. The fourth court is covered by a framed fabric structure and includes state of the art LED sports lighting and a secure remote access system that allows online booking and payment by both members and visitors to maximise use of the court without needing any management time. The Tennitop Ace polymeric surface, which is exclusive to Doe in Scotland, is primarily used for tennis but the rebound fencing and surface make the area suitable for football and other sports.

Design and Build : All year round multi use tennis and sports hall
Aviemore is a successful local club with a strong tennis coaching programme. The covered court will allow this programme to continue all year round and to be available to a wider group of players from the club, community and visitors to the area. Tourism is an essential part of the local economy and the new covered facility will appeal to players throughout the year.
Special thanks also to the contractors Doe Sport (North) Ltd whose commitment and hard work led to the project being delivered on time. The club are delighted with the end result.
