CASE STUDY – GLENEAGLES.

Disciplines : Groundworks, acrylic court surfaces, maintenance and refurbishment

The Brief

DOE have had a long association with the Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire looking after their artificial grass courts and carrying out an extensive refurbishment of the outdoor courts . On the strength of growing demand for tennis the hotel decided to invest in indoor tennis facilities that can also, on occasion, be used as a conference area.

DOE were asked to assist with the conversion of an existing indoor riding centre in the hotel grounds into a performance standard indoor tennis venue.

Build up and delivery

The riding centre had sufficient floor space but did not meet the LTA recommended height standards. To improve this the internal floor level of the existing riding arena was reduced before constructing a new high performance acrylic surface. This involved upfilling of the existing arena basin with layers of tarmac, perimeter areas were improved with self levelling screed to meet ITF requirements and then an acrylic surface installed along with associated court equipment.

The Results

A wide ranging tennis programme has been put in place with Head Coach, Adam Brown, offering social tennis for hotel guests, performance squads for local juniors and a competition programme which all benefit from the acrylic indoor surface. The venue also welcomes top players like the Murrays who occasionally train there and also is the host venue for the Brodies Tennis Invitational with players of the calibre of Greg Rusedski and Mats Wilander enjoying the tournament.
